Bangladesh reported 225 Covid-19 deaths and 11,578 infections in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning.
The death toll is the third highest since the pandemic began in March last year.
The new figures took the death tally to 17,894 while the caseload crossed 11 lakh, according to a handout released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The fresh cases were detected after testing 39,806 samples at different laboratories across the country. Positivity rate slightly went up to 29.09 percent from 29.06 on Saturday.
Despite a spike in coronavirus cases and deaths Bangladesh has relaxed restrictions and opened everything – from shopping malls to public transports – for a week ahead of Eid-ul Azha. Experts warned that this relaxation would cost Bangladesh heavily in the days to come.
