The government has finally allowed Covid-19 antigen tests in private hospitals and clinics in order to expand testing facilities across the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) issued an order in this regard on Sunday. The health authority named 78 hospitals and clinics from where the antigen test can be done.

Presently, antigen tests are allowed only at government hospitals.

Robust testing is an essential aspect of preparedness and response to the Covid-19 pandemic as it allows early detection of potentially infectious individuals. It also helps identifying contact tracing to limit the spread through quick isolation.

The DGHS also issued guidelines for testing and where it can be done. Cost of the test has been fixed Tk 700 per person and in case of collecting sample from home, additional Tk 500 will be charged.
