HC orders judicial inquiry into land grabbing in Cox’s Bazar

The High Court (HC) on Tuesday ordered the authorities concerned to conduct a judicial inquiry into alleged illegal grabbing of 60 acres of agricultural land situated at Muhuripara, adjacent to Backhali River under Cox’s Bazar sadar upazila.

It also issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why its inaction and failure to restrain the miscreants from grabbing the land and thereby allowing them to change the nature.

It also asked the government to explain why its inaction and failure to recover the land and failure to hand over the same to the rightful owners should not be declared illegal.

In response to a writ petition filed by Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) challenging the legality of illegal land grabbing in Cox’s Bazar area, the HC bench comprising Justice Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah also directed the authorities concerned to maintain the status quo over the dispute land till further order.

Advocate Anik R Haque and Dr Syeda Nasrin appeared for the petitioner while deputy attorney general Nawroz Md Rasel Chowdhury represented the state during the hearing on the petition.
