The Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has found six persons positive for Indian variant of deadly disease novel coronavirus.

The six persons were returnees from India and of them, three are members of a same family, said a doctor of the IEDCR.

They went to India for treatment purpose and one of the six, died due to cancer after he was tested negative for the virus, the IEDCR doctor told the Business Insider Bangladesh this noon.

All the people returned home in the last two weeks and they are now being treated at isolation centres for different hospitals, he added.

Earlier in April, the IEDCR collected samples from at least some suspecting coronavirus patients who went to India for treatment purpose.

Bangladesh announced closure of borders with India on April 26 as part of the government’s effort to prevent the entrance of the variant that is taking lives of thousands people in different states in the neighbouring country.

Later, some 202 Bangladeshis returned the country under special arrangement and of them 83 are now in quarantine at different hotels and 111 at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital.

Meanwhile, five people have been declared free from the virus on completion of their necessary tests.
