Dhaka (May 15, 2021): Bangladesh reported 22 deaths and 261 new cases from Covid-19 in last 24 hours till Saturday morning, showing a fall in fatalities and infection compared to the previous day.

The latest number took the official coronavirus-related deaths to 12,114, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The country saw 26 deaths on Friday, 31 on Thursday and 40 on Wednesday, according to the DGHS.

Meanwhile, the health authority confirmed 261 new cases, down from 848 a day ago, taking the total caseload to 779,796 so far.

Surprisingly, the infection rate witnessed a steep fall and stood at 6.95 percent, down from 10.82 percent on Friday and 8.67 percent Thursday.

The number of daily tests declined massively in the last 24 hours as it was the Eid day. A total of 3,758 samples was tested, down from 7, 835 a day ago.

Meanwhile, the government is mulling to extend the ongoing restrictions by another week to curb the coronavirus, which is ravaging neighbouring India.

Experts fear that the Indian variant of the coronavirus that has been detected in Bangladesh can create havoc if people do not main strict health guidelines.
