Abdul Matin Khasru, president of Supreme Court Bar Association, passed away during undergoing treatment for coronavirus infection at CMH in Dhaka on Wednesday. He was 71.

Khasru, also a presidium member of ruling Awami League, breathed his last at the Combined Military Hospital this afternoon.

was tested positive for coronavirus on March 16 and immediately he was admitted to the hospital as his condition was deteriorating.

Sensing danger, doctors took him at an Intensive Care Unit of the hospital on March 28 and later he was shifted to a bed. Later, he was put on life support on Tuesday.

Khasru was elected as president in the Supreme Court Bar Association election on March 13.

He was elected as a member of parliament from Cumilla-5 constituency for five times and later has made law minister of Awmi League–led government.

He was chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

Born in 1950 at a village in Cumilla, Khasru took part in the War of Liberation in 1971.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed grave shock at the death of the seasoned politician.
