The government will beef up special vigilance in seven industrial areas to enforce the health guidelines in the factories during the one-week nationwide all-out lockdown to begin from Wednesday.

As per the government decision, the export oriented mills and factories will remain opened during the lockdown and thus the government will intensify its surveillance to oversee whether the health guidelines are being maintained in the factories.

decision came in a meeting held at the Ministry of Labour and Employment in Dhaka on Monday. The government has already sent letters to the concern authorities of government and privately run industries.

The seven industrial areas are: Dhaka, Mymensingh, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, Khulna and Chattogram, the meeting sources said.

In the letters, the authorities have been asked to ensure transport facilities for the workers and run their factories by strictly maintaining the health guideline.

The authorities of the mills and factories have also been asked to consider in arranging residential facilities for the workers in their factories to halt the spread of the virus.

Commerce Secretary K M Ali Azam, after the meeting, told media that the government will realise fine from the owners who will not ensure transport facilities for the workers. “Even, we will not allow the owners to run their factories,” the government official said.
