Govt fixes prices of 6 essentials for Ramadan

The government has fixed retail prices of six essentials ahead of the month of Ramadan likely to begin from April 14.

Per kilogram of onion will be sold at Tk40, sugar at Tk67 while a liter of soybean oil will be sold at Tk139, during the fasting month.

Besides, per kilogram of chickpeas will be sold at Tk63 to Tk67 while per kilogram of coarse-grained and fine-grained lentils will be sold at Tk67 to Tk69 and Tk97 to Tk103 at retail level respectively.

The cost of per kilogram of the ordinary quality dates cannot be more than Tk80 to Tk100 and the medium quality dates cannot be more than Tk200 to 250 in the market.

Mohammad Yusuf, director general of the Department of Agricultural Marketing came up with announcement at a press conference on Monday.

He said they have fixed the prices following the Agriculture Marketing Act and different government agencies are engaged in working to ensure the prices of these essential items during the Ramadan.

The commerce ministry has formed a six-member committee control the market and a total of 28 teams will monitor the overall situation in the market, he added.
