Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Friday said that writer Mushtaq Ahmed, who died at Kashimpur Central Jail last night, had violated the law and hurt people’s faith through his write-ups.

And thus, many people filed cases against him, the home minister remarked while talking to reporters after inaugurating the new office of the superintendent of police in Chattogram this afternoon.

Responding to a query, he said Mushtaq’s death would be investigated to determine whether there was any negligence by the jail authorities in this connection, reports our Chattogram correspondent.

Mushtaq suddenly fell sick in prison last evening and was provided with first aid at the prison hospital.

Later, he was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead.

Soon after the information spread, activists of different left-leaning student organisations blocked Shahbagh intersection this morning, protesting the death.

also termed it as a custodial death and blamed the jail authorities for allegedly torturing Mushtaq Ahmed in the prison cell.
