Covid-19: 11 more die, 470 infected in last 24hrs

Covid-19: 11 more die, 470 infected in last 24hrs

Bangladesh recorded 11 more deaths and 470 new cases of coronavirus from different parts across the country including capital Dhaka in the last 24 hours ending 8:00am on Friday.

With 11, the total of death toll of the virus rose to 8,395 while the total number of infection stood at 5, 45,424 in the country so far, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said it in a press release this afternoon.

As many as 15,032 samples were tested at different government authorised laboratories across the country and of them, 470 were found positive for the virus in the same period, the DGHS said.

At the same time, some 743 patients, who were undergoing treatment either at their houses or hospitals, were declared free from the infection, taking the total number of recovery to 4, 95, 498, so far.

The updated official statistic shows the infection rate of the virus 3.13 percent, recovery rate 90.85 percent while the death rate 1.54 percent in the same period.

Meanwhile, Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, has recorded 25, 20, 834 deaths so far caused by the virus and 11, 36, 17, 092 cases worldwide.

The virus was detected first at Wuhan province of China in December 2019, since then Bangladesh recorded the first case of infection on March 8 last year and first death on March 18 in the same year.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the pilot Covid-19 vaccination drive formally on January 27. Later, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque officially inaugurated the mass inoculation campaign across the country on February 7.

On the first day, the vaccination drive kicked off at 1,000 hospitals across the country including 47 in the capital simultaneously and the nationwide campaign is going on in a full swing.

Earlier, the government has received a total of 7 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine –2 million gifted by India and 5 million purchased from its Serum Institute.
