Casino kingpin Samrat denied bail, sent to jail again

A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent expelled Juba League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, also known as a casino kingpin, to jail again.

Samrat surrendered at the Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-6 in a case of acquiring assets beyond his known sources of income and appealed for his bail. But the court denied the bail.

Earlier on May 11, a Dhaka court granted bail to Samrat in the graft case, paving the way for his release from judicial custody.

Later on May 16, the ACC filed a petition before the High Court seeking cancellation of the bail of Samrat in the graft case.

The High Court (HC) on May 18, cancelled the bail of Samrat in a graft case.

The HC bench of Justice Kazi Md Ijaharula Haque Akand and Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukdar and Justice Kazi Md Ijaharula Haque Akand, passed the order asking him to surrender within a week.
