Bangladesh has ranked as the 12th most corrupt country in the world on the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) published on Thursday by Transparency International (TI), a Berlin-based anti-corruption body.

According to TI, Bangladesh's score is 26 as per the CPI 2020, which was the same as in the previous two years.

Bangladesh ranks 12th out of 180 countries in the bottom list, down by two notches from 14th of the CPI 2019.

With the same score this year, Uzbekistan and the Central African Republic are also in the bottom 12 places with Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has been identified as the second most corrupt country in South Asia for the eighth time since 2012. Afghanistan is the most corrupt country in South Asia with a score of 19.

According to the CPI this year, Denmark and New Zealand are at the top of the list of the least corrupt countries with 88 points. Finland, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland are in second place with 85 points and Norway is in the third place with 84 points.

South Sudan and Somalia are at the bottom of the list with the lowest scores of 12. Syria is in second place with 14 points and Yemen and Venezuela are in third place with 15 points.

Bhutan is the least corrupt country in South Asia. Its score is 68 and its position in the index as calculated from the highest is 24 — which is the same score as last year, but one step ahead in the position.

The Maldives is next in the 75th position with 43 scores. India, which was in second position last time, has slipped to number three. Its score is 40 and global position is 86, while Sri Lanka has 38 points in the 94th position. Then Nepal is at 117 with 33 points, and Pakistan is at 124 with 31 points.
