Justice Tafazzal Hossain (TH) Khan, a former High Court judge and veteran Supreme Court lawyer, died at a city hospital on Sunday. He was 102.

TH Khan, also a former MP, died at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in the capital at 4:45 pm, said his eldest son and senior lawyer Afzal H Khan, reports UNB.

"My father died of old-age complications. He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night due to weakness," he said.

TH Kham is survived by three sons and one daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his demise.

Afzal said his father's first-namaz-e-Janaza will be held on the Supreme Court premises at 11:30am on Monday.

Later, his body will be taken to his village home in Mymensingh's Haluaghat Upazila. He will be buried at his family graveyard there after his second janaza.

TH Khan, a founding member of BNP, was the vice-chairman of the party at the end of his life.

Born on October 21, 1920, TH Khan joined the legal profession in 1947 on completion of his graduation and post-graduation from Dhaka University.

In 1968, he joined the then East Pakistan High Court as a judge, but he went on retirement in 1973 to re-enter the legal profession.

He served as the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association twice in 1974 and 1979. He was also the founding president of the BNP-backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum.

Shortly after joining the BNP founded by Ziaur Rahman, TH Khan was elected an MP in the 1979 parliamentary elections from Mymensingh-1 seat with the party's ticket. He was later inducted into Ziaur Rahman's cabinet.

Meanwhile, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock at his death.

In separate condolence messages, they prayed for the salvation of the departed soul of the veteran jurist and conveyed their sympathy to the bereaved family members.
