A man was killed as a garbage truck of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) hit his motorcycle from behind in the city’s Panthapath area on Thursday, a day after the death of a Notre Dame College student in a similar accident.

The victim was Ahmed Kabir, a former employee of Bangla daily Prothom Alo, according to police.

The driver of the garbage truck fled the spot after the accident.

The accident took place this afternoon when the entire capital got paralysed as students blocked streets at different key points in the city protesting the death of the college student, Naim Hasan, and demanding road safety.

A garbage truck of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) took the life of Naim at Gulistan on Wednesday.

The garbage truck hit the motorcycle when it was crossing the Panthapath intersection and managed to flee the spot, living Kabir critically injured, said an eyewitness.

Kabir, who was a co-rider, rushed to Dhaka Medical Hospital where attending doctor declared him dead.

Traffic Sergeant Asim Kumar Sutradhar in the area said, the body has no longer been a condition to be identified as his head sandwiched under the wheel of the garbage truck.

“We came to know the victim from his national ID card,” the traffic sergeant said.
