A list incorporating 22 public holidays for the 2022 calendar year by the executive order of the government has been approved.

The number of public holidays was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Thursday.

“The 14 general holidays will include three coinciding weekly holidays – two Fridays and one Saturday, respectively,” Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told reporters after the cabinet meeting.

The other eight holidays include Bangla New Year and various religious days. Here, three weekly holidays have coincided with those 8 holidays.

Therefore, the 22 public holidays will include six coinciding weekly holidays, too.

Apart from the 22 days of public holidays, there will also be three separate optional religious holidays, and two optional holidays for small ethnic minorities of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT).
