Bangladesh has received another consignment of 50 lakh Sinopharm vaccine from China to accelerate the country’s inoculation programme.

A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the vaccine landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 2am, a said press note of the health ministry.

Chief Health Coordinator Abu Zahed received the vaccine at the airport and sent the vaccines to Beximco’s warehouse in Tongi.

With the fresh shipment, China has so far sent 2.49 crore vaccines to Bangladesh.

Earlier, the government reached a deal with Sinopharm to buy three crore doses of vaccine.

The vaccine doses came when Bangladesh health authorities logged 38 more Covid-19 deaths and 1,907 fresh cases in the last 24 hours till Friday morning.

Bangladesh to get 24cr Covid jabs by March-April

Earlier, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen at a programme in Dhaka, sounded hopeful regarding procurement of Covid-19 jabs, saying Bangladesh is on track to get 24 crore vaccines by March-April next year.

“Vaccine doses are coming under the COVAX facility, as gifts and from other sources,” he said, adding that Bangladesh needs 26 crore vaccine doses and some jabs would be produced at home too.
