Fazilatunnesa Convention Centre turns into Covid field hospital

The Cabinet Committee on economic affairs on Tuesday approved the Health Services Division’s proposal for adopting a direct procurement method to reshape Fazilatunnesa Mujib Convention Centre of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University into a Covid-19 field hospital.
A virtual cabinet meeting, presided over by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, gave its consent on Tuesday while responding to the health ministry’s field hospital scheme.
After the meeting, the Finance Minister said, “We hope the Coronavirus pandemic will get over soon.”
But if the infection rate rises again, the government will badly need this field hospital, he said.
The spokesman for the cabinet meeting Shamsul Arefin, also an additional secretary to the Cabinet Division, said a total of Tk 10.20 crore is needed to turn the convention centre into a Covid-19 field hospital.
Of that amount, the Heath Engineering Department will do a part worth Tk 3.48 crore, he said.
