Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) –on Sunday plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 65.76 points or 1.26 percent to 5,171.56. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 22.52 points to close at 1,835.46 and the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, closed the day 15.94 points down to finish at 1,120.83.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Tk 3,579.02 million which was Tk 5,426.04 million at the previous session of the week, reports BSS.

Out of 392 issues traded, 340 declined, 33 advanced and 19 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

VFSTDL was the day's top gainer, posting 9.45 percent gain while ESQUIRENIT was the worst loser, losing 3 percent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 106.48 points to settle at 14,840.48 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX- shedding 65.17 points to close at 8,924.09.

Of the issues traded, 151 declined, 34 advanced and 32 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city's bourse traded 77.85 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Tk 107.83 crore.
