Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) on Wednesday plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 50.35 points or 0.95 percent to 5,228.53, reports BSS.

Two other indices also ended sharply lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 16.79 points to finish at 1,869.94 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 13.59 point to close at 1,138.96.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Tk 3,066.75 million which was Tk 4,407.21 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 394 issues traded, 286 declined, 64 advanced and 44 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

GHCL was the day's top gainer, posting 10 percent gain while CVOPRL was the worst loser, losing 3 percent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 155.79 points to settle at 15,084.57 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX- shedding 95.39 points to close at 9,074.92.

Of the issues traded, 167 declined, 37 advanced and 18 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city's bourse traded 34.20 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Tk 7.84 crore.
