Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Country's both the bourses Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) on Sunday plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 19.73 points or 0.31 percent to 6,264.90.

BSS adds: Two other indices also ended lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 4.66 points to finish at 2,135.69 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 2.23 points to close at 1,357.38.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, increased to Tk 5,319.32 million which was Tk 4,223 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 302 issues traded, 120 declined, 37 advanced and 145 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

SONALIPAPR topped the turnover chart, followed by CRYSTALINS, KBPPWBIL, UNIONINS and GEMINISEA.

LEGACYFOOT was the day's top gainer, posting 8.99 percent gain while EMERALDOIL was the worst loser, losing 9.94 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 19.96 points to settle at 18,560.62 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX- shedding 11.68 points to close at 11,096.37.

Of the issues traded, 72 declined, 25 advanced and 52 issues remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.

The port city's bourse traded 27.62 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Tk 12.10 crore.
