Dhaka, Chittagong stocks witness flat

Stocks on Thursday witnessed flat as the major indices of the both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges showed no significant rise amid lower activities of large-cap securities.

DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, went down by 0.88 point to settle at 6,309.75.

BSS adds: But, the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, closed the day with 5.21 points up at 2,146.10 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) closed the day with 2.97 points up at 1,364.61.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Tk 7,353.57 million which was Tk 8,554.76 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 309 issues traded, 84 declined, 69 advanced and 156 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

UNIONINS continued to top the turnover list, followed by FUWANGFOOD, GEMINISEA, METROSPIN and SEAPEARL.

BDCOM was the top gainer, posting a 9.97 percent gain while United Insurance was the day's worst loser, losing 6.09 percent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also slipped into the red with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 7.92 points to settle at 18,664.20 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX - shedding 5.19 points to close at 11,158.53.

Of the issues traded, 53 declined, 48 advanced and 62 issues remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.

The port city's bourse traded 47.22 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value worth over Tk 24.47 crore.
