3800 tonnes of Indian lentils arrive at Benapole port

A consignment of 3800 tonnes of lentils reached the Benapole port from neighboring India on Thursday night ahead of Ramadan expected to begin on March 22 based on moon sight.

Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) imported the lentils at $1,136.13 per tonne.

Murtaza Sharif, manager of Confidence Trade Associate, a C&F agent said the government has planned to import 4000 tonnes of lentils from India of which 3800 tonnes of lentils arrived at the port on Thursday night.

The remaining 200 tonnes of lentils will arrive very soon, he said, adding that the lentils have been purchased at Tk 125 per kg.

Benapole Port Director Abdul Jalil said they are working to unload these pulses from the port and to distribute the important essential items to different destinations across the country.
