Amid the abnormal inflationary pressure, Bangladesh Sugar Refiners Association has increased sugar prices by Tk 5 per kilogram to be effective from February 1.

As per the new rate, the unpackaged sugar will be sold at Tk 107 per kilogram and packaged sugar will be retailed at Tk 112.

Earlier, the government fixed the prices of unpackaged and packaged sugar at Tk 102 and Tk 108 per kilogram respectively.

The Bangladesh Sugar Refiners Association said they took the decision after taking the sugar prices in the international market, the dollar exchange rate and the production costs of the local refiners into account.

The association also discussed the matter with the commerce ministry and the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission before taking the decision, it said in a press release floated for the media on Thursday.
