Stocks edge up for 3rd day amid higher trade

Equity indices on the Dhaka bourse gained for the third straight day with higher participation.

At the beginning of the transaction on the day, the fourth working day of the week, there is an upward trend in the stock market with a good pace in the transaction.

Shares and units of 30 percent of the companies on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) rose slightly within the first half-hour of trading. As a result, the main price index rose by 14 points and the turnover amounted to Tk 150 crore.

However, at around 11:20am prices began to slide but managed to end the day higher than the previous session.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange DSE, increased 2.09 points or 0.33 percent to settle at 6293.40 as against 6291.30 points in the previous trading session. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 0.04 points or 0.003 percent to finish at 1372.27. The DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, edged up by 1.72 points or 0.07 percent to close at 2228.70.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, increased by 20.88 percent and stood at Tk 734.60 crore at the end of the day. It was Tk 607.67 crore at the previous session on Thursday.

Shares of the 346 issues were traded on the day, of which 38 closed in green, 129 in red and 179 showed no price movement.

POPULARLIF was the day’s best performer on the day, posting a gain of 9.92 percent. PROGRESLIF was the second-best gainer (9.03 percent), followed by AAMRANET (7.35 percent), RUPALILIFE (7.02 percent), and BDWELDING (6.27 percent).

On the other hand, GEMINISEA had the sharpest fall, shedding 4.53 percent, followed by NAVANAPHAR (-4.09 percent), MALEKSPIN (-3.13 percent), INTRACO (-3.12 percent), and ORIONINFU (-2.98 percent).

GENEXIl was the most-traded by value with its shares worth Tk 42.47 crore trading on the day. AAMRANET, which was the second most-traded stock, had a turnover of Tk 35.98 crore followed by UNIQUEHRL at 29.23 crore, BPML at Tk 29.03 crore, and EHL at Tk 28.57 crore.

On the sectoral front, IT was the best performer in the session. The total turnover in this sector was Tk 138.30 crore, which was 20.87 percent of the total turnover. The Life Insurance sector was in the second position with Tk 108.30 crore turnover, followed by the Insurance sector with Tk 70.49 crore, Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals sector with 56.30 crore, and Travel & Leisure with Tk 47.38 crore.

Meanwhile, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also settled on green terrain. All Share Price Index (CASPI) added 17.97 points or 0.09 percent to 18576.18 and securities worth Tk 12.26 crore were traded on the day. The selected indices (CSCX) advanced by 10.67 points or 0.09 percent to 11135.22. Of the 174 issues traded, 36 advanced, 38 declined and 70 had no price movement on the CSE.
