Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Both bourses of the country, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), plunged on Wednesday due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities, reports BSS.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 23.57 points or 0.37 percent to 6,258.17. Two other indices also ended sharply lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 4.83 points to finish at 2,210.42 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 4.16 points to close at 1,367.38.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, remained low and amounted to Tk 9,342.93 million which was Tk 9,004.82 million at the previous session of the week. 

Out of 368 issues traded, 138 declined, 49 advanced and 181 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

AAMRANET was the day's top gainer, posting 5.74 percent gain while JHRML was the worst loser, losing 7.54 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 45.48 points to settle at 18,484.41 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 27.38 points to close at 11,077.32.

Of the issues traded, 82 declined, 42 advanced and 97 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city's bourse traded 38.54 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Tk 17.90 crore.
