DSEX sheds 4.5 points to break four-day rally

After showing signals of recovery from a prolonged bearish trade the indices on the Dhaka bourse snapped a four-day winning streak to end Monday’s session in negative territory.

Also, the turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) increased marginally but stayed above Tk 700 crore, a mark that was achieved on Sunday after three months.

Trading on the DSE started positively pushing the prime index to move up 5 points. However, as soon as the first half-an-hour transaction ended, the index needle began to move towards negative terrain and stayed there for the rest of the session.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange DSE, lost 4.43 points or 0.07 percent to settle at 6246.06 as against 6250.50 points in the previous trading session. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) inched down 2.34 points or 0.17 percent to finish at 1362.24. The DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, shed 6.76 points or 0.30 percent to close at 22.1.33.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, increased slightly by 0.30 percent and stood at Tk 713.77 crore at the end of the day. It was Tk 711.30 crore at the previous session on Sunday.

Shares of the 353 issues were traded on the day, of which 61 closed green, 117 in red and 175 showed no price movement.

IBP was the day’s best performer on the day, posting a gain of 9.41 percent. BDCOM was the second-best gainer (7.11 percent), followed by GEMINISEA (6.90 percent), SKTRIMS (6.22 percent), and PRAGATIINS (5.34 percent).

On the other hand, POPOLARLIF had the sharpest fall, shedding 4.67 percent, followed by FAREASTLIF (-4.14 percent), PRAGATILIF (-3.77 percent), BDTHAIFOOD (-3.55 percent), and BEACONPHAR (-3.08 percent).

LHBL was the biggest index mover contributing 37.16 points to the index. It was followed by GENEXIL (20.18 points), UNIQUEHRL (17.79 points), BERGERPBL (13.03 points), and ORIONINFU (10.93 points).

On the other hand, BEACONPHAR was the biggest index dragger, stripping off 73.91 points. It was followed by BXPHARMA (-26.96 points), OLYMPIC (-11.37 points), DELTALIFE (-9.68 points), and FAREASTLIF (-9.57 points).

GENEXIL was the most-traded by value with its shares worth Tk 64.91 crore trading on the day. BSC, which was the second most-traded stock, had a turnover of Tk 46.73 crore followed by BPML at 36.55 crore, and ORIONPHARM at Tk 29.53 crore, and JHRML at Tk 25.86 crore.

On the sectoral front, IT was the best performer in the session. The total turnover in this sector was Tk 132.43 crore, which was 20.59 percent of the total turnover. The Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals sector was in the second position with Tk 96 crore turnover (14.93 percent), followed by Miscellaneous with Tk 79.90 crore (12.42 percent), Life Insurance sector with 59.30 crore (9.22 percent), and Paper and Printing with Tk 4323 crore (6.72 percent).

Meanwhile, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also settled on green terrain. All Share Price Index (CASPI) added 9.20 points to 18440.50 and securities worth Tk 17.30 crore were traded on the day. The selected indices (CSCX) advanced by 5.11 points to 11051.05.

Of the 202 issues traded, 40 advanced, 65 declined and 97 had no price movement on the CSE. The port city’s bourse traded 7899 shares and mutual fund units on the day with a volume of 24,03,149.
