Dhaka stocks inch up after see-saw trading

Dhaka stocks posted a marginal gain on Wednesday after a bumpy ride, extending the gaining streak for the second straight session.

The market observed see-saw trading throughout the session as investors remained reluctant to put fresh bets in a market restricted by floor price.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka bourse inched up by 4.7 points and settled at 6,234 points as against 6,229 points in the previous trading session.

Meanwhile, the total turnover rose by 14.5 percent and stood at Tk 311 crore as against Tk 271 crore in the previous session.

Genex Infosys topped the turnover with shares worth Tk 21.7 crore changing hands, followed by Orion Pharma, Aamra Network, Bashundhara Paper Mills and Bangladesh Shipping Corporation.

IT sector generated the highest turnover with Tk 66.3 crore (25.28 percent), followed by Pharma & Chemicals with 37.4 crore (14.25 percent) and Paper & Printing with 23.5 crore (8.95 percent).

Out of the 312 issues traded, 43 advanced, 28 declined, and 241 were unchanged.

Meanwhile, the port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), fell on the day. The All Share Price Index (CASPI) lost 7.0 points to settle at 18,351 and its Selective Categories Index (CSCX) dropped 4.0 points to close the week at 10,995.
