Rice, lentil, flour, sugar prices on the rise

Consumers are continuously bearing the brunt of spiralling food inflation in the country as the prices of rice, lentil, flour and sugar again went up in the capital’s kitchen markets within a span of a week.
The price per kg of sugar increased by Tk 30 to Tk 120, per kg of flour increased by Tk 5 to Tk 55 and lentils by Tk 10 to Tk 150, the scenario was found while visiting different markets in the capital in Dhaka on Friday morning.
Besides, the price of coarse rice has increased by Tk 50 to Tk 100 per sack at mill gates within a span of the last three days.
Visiting the Kawran Bazar kitchen market, the reporter found the price per kg local of onion increased by Tk 5 to Tk 60. The prices of vegetables have increased by Tk 10 to Tk 20 per kg at the same market.
Per piece of cauliflower and cabbage are being sold at Tk 50 to Tk 60 based on size and per kg of cucumber at Tk 80 to Tk 90. Per kg of brinjal is being sold at Tk 90 to Tk 130 based on verities.
Besides, per kg of tomato is being sold at Tk 160 at Kawran Bazar market while beans at Tk 120 to Tk 130.
Per kg of bitter gourd is being sold at Tk 90, per piece of pumpkin is being sold at Tk 60, per kg of sweet pumpkin at Tk 50 and gourd at Tk 60 to Tk 70 based on size.
Per kg of pointed gourd is being sold at Tk 60, lady’s finger at Tk 70, papaya at Tk 50 and green bean at Tk 80. Per kg of green chilly is being sold at Tk 80 to Tk 90.
The price per kg of potato stood at Tk 30 to Tk 40 which was Tk 25 to Tk 30 in the last week. Per kg of locally produced garlic is being sold at Tk 30 to Tk 40 while the garlic imported from China is being sold at Tk 145 to Tk 150 per kg. Per kg of salt is being sold at Tk 38 to Tk 40.
A dozen of the farm’s red eggs is being sold at Tk 140 to Tk 145, duck eggs at Tk 195 to Tk 200 and local chicken eggs rose to Tk 220 to Tk 225 per dozen.
A kg of beef is being sold at Tk 680 to Tk700 and goat meat at Tk 850 to 900 per kg at Kawran Bazar market.
The boiler is being sold at Tk 180 to Tk 190 per kg, a kg of golden chicken at Tk 320 and a kg of layer chicken is being sold at Tk 290 to Tk 300 at the same market.
While talking to the reporter about the increasing vegetable prices, some traders at Kawran Bazar kitchen said the price will go down as the winter vegetables have started coming into the market from different parts of the country.
