DSEX turns negative in last hour

The Dhaka bourse closed lower on Tuesday for the third straight session after failing to hold on to a slow but promising start.

The movement of trade in the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) waa slightly slow from the start on Tuesday, but the index remained higher than the previous working day for three and a half hours till 1:00pm.

But, in the last hour, DSEX, the key index of the bourse went negative position through a continuous decline.

As a result, the country’s stock market fell for three consecutive working days.

On the day, all the indices of the stock market as well as the prices of shares and units of most of the companies participating in the transaction also decreased.

However, the amount of money transactions has increased slightly from the previous day.

At the end of the day, DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka bourse decreased by 22 points or 0.33 percent to 6,489.

Among other indices, the shariah-based DSES fell by 7.42 points or 0.52 percent and the blue-chip DS-30 was down by 15.47 points or 0.66 percent.

The DSE had a turnover of Tk 1,494 crore, which is Tk 194 crore more than the previous session.

On the day, shares of the 370 companies were traded, of which only 60 firms gained, 136 issues lost and 174 companies remained unchanged.

The miscellaneous sector played a major role behind this rise in transactions. The total turnover in this sector was Tk 232.46 crore, which is 17.03 percent of the total turnover.

The pharmaceuticals and chemicals sector was at the second position with Tk 223.6 crore turnover, followed by services and real estate sector at Tk 136.4 crore.

Shares of Orion Pharma were the most-traded by value on the DSE as its shares worth Tk 119.21 crore were traded on the day.

Beximco Limited, which was the second most-traded stock, had a turnover of Tk 94.10 crore followed by Saif Powertec, Eastern Housing, BSC, BDCOM Online, JHRML, Unique Hotel, Shinepukur Ceramics and ADN Telecom.

Meanwhile, the overall index CASPI of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) decreased by 18 point to 19,163 and securities worth Tk 103.40 crore were traded on the day.
