Managing Director (MD) of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the main stock market of the country, Tarique Amin Bhuiyan has resigned.

He submitted his resignation letter to Md Eunusur Rahman, chairman of the Dhaka bourse, on Tuesday, a director of DSE, who did not want to be named, told Business Insider Bangladesh.

However, DGM and spokesperson of the DSE Shafiqur Rahman did not pick up the phone despite repeated calls to inquire about the matter.

The DSE director said the board of directors was unhappy with Tarique Amin Bhuiyan for not being able to bring the company to a profitable state after taking charge as the managing director a year ago. Until now the DSE has to depend on interest from FDR.

His move to promote more than a hundred officials and employees on Monday also raised controversy.

Besides, there have been allegations against him since the beginning that he was appointed as MD of DSE on the back of a strong lobby by a senior official of the regulatory body Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).
