Banks, stock markets to remain closed Thursday for Janmashtami

All banks and stock markets of the country will remain closed on Thursday (August 18) on the occasion of Janmashtami, a religious festival of the Hindu community.
This information is known from the central bank and two stock exchange sources.
Moreover, the capital markets will be closed on the following two days (Friday and Saturday) as weekends. As a result, the markets will remain closed for three consecutive days. Trading in the capital market will resume on Sunday (August 21).
The Dhaka Stock Exchange’s (DSE) Managing Director Tarique Amin Bhuiyan said that Thursday is a public holiday on the occasion of Janmashtami.
“Bank transactions will be closed on this day. As bank transactions are closed, the capital market will also be closed,” he said. “After the weekend, official and transaction activities will start from Sunday.”
Asif Ibrahim, chairman of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), said that on the occasion of Janmashtami, all government and private offices, banks and courts of the country will be closed on Thursday. “We have also decided to close the capital market.”
Before this, on the occasion of the 47th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Day of Mourning, capital market transactions and official activities were closed on August 15.
As a result, only three working days have been traded in the country’s capital market this week.
