Bourses, banks to remain closed Tuesday for Ashura

All government and private institutions, including all banks and bourses, of the country will remain closed on Tuesday on the occasion of Holy Ashura.

Ashura is a public holiday in Bangladesh on the 10th of Muharram of the Hijri Year. On this day Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the son-in-law of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), was martyred in the Karbala desert on the banks of the Euphrates River.

Since then, the tragic event of Karbala has been observed in the Muslim world as a symbol of sacrifice and mourning. The day is also being celebrated with due dignity in Bangladesh.

To observe the day with due dignity, all government and private institutions and court activities in the country will be closed. At the same time, stock market transactions will also be closed.
