Dhaka stocks open lower after four sessions

Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) started trading on a negative note on Thursday, breaking the previous four session’s gains, as the investors tried to book profit.

In the first 30 minutes into the trade, the benchmark index of DSE, DSEX decreased over 13 points or 0.21 percent to 6,286.

Among other indices, the shariah-based DSES was down by 1.64 points or 0.12 percent and the blue-chip DS-30 fell by 4.03 points or 0.17 percent.

Over Tk 149 crore worth of shares transacted so far in DSE, where Beximco, Malek Spinning, ACMEPL, Orion Infusion and Orion Pharma were the top five traded stocks.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the benchmark index, DSEX ended the day 50 points or 0.81 percent higher at 6,300.

Among other indices, the Shariah-based DSES index rose 0.59 percent and the blue-chip30 index 1.10 percent.

DSE data shows share prices of 76 percent of banks and 86 percent of non-bank financial institutions increased.

Turnover, which is the total value of traded shares, also rose to Tk 1,195 crore, the highest in the last three months.

Shares of the 382 companies were traded on the day, of which 152 firms gained, 162 issues lost and 68 companies remained unchanged.
