DSE market cap gains Tk 3,465cr last week

The country’s stock market had a slight upward movement last week following a continuous sluggish trend in the previous two weeks.

The price of shares and units of most of the companies participating in the transaction increased last week (June 26 – July 30).

As a result, the market capitalisation of the main stock exchange, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), increased by about three and a half thousand crore taka.

During the preceding two weeks, the stock market plunged after the budget for FY 2022-23 was proposed. The market capitalisation fell by Tk 8,565 crore in the previous two consecutive weeks of decline.

However, after last week’s somewhat positive movement, the market capitalisation of DSE stood at Tk 5,17,781 crore, which is Tk 3,465 crore or 0.67 percent more than the last working day of the previous week.

Meanwhile, the benchmark index of DSE, the DSEX was up over 49 points, or 0.78 percent, to 6,376 during the week.

Among other DSE indices, the shariah-based DSES increased by 3.85 points or 0.28 percent, and the blue-chip DS-30 declined by 3.01 points or 0.13 percent.

Meanwhile, the DSE had a turnover of Tk 3,857.41 crore last week, which is Tk 35.24 crore or 0.92 percent more than the previous week.

Last week, the average turnover on the DSE was Tk 771.48 crore per working day, which is Tk 7.5 crore or 0.92 percent more than the previous week.

A total of 390 companies participated in the share and unit transactions on the DSE last week. Among the companies, the share price increased by 265, declined by 94 and remained unchanged by 31.

Beximco Limited’s shares were the most traded on the DSE last week. During the week, the company’s share turnover was Tk 154.33 crore, which was 4 percent of the total turnover.

Shares of Shinepukur Ceramics came in second place with a turnover of Tk 148.74 crore followed by Fu-Wang Food, Anwar Galvanizing, Orion Pharma, Salvo Chemical, Square Pharma, JMI Hospital, BD Finance, and BSC.

Meanwhile, on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the overall index CASPI increased by 110 points or 0.58 percent to 18,727 during the week and Tk 195.90 crore worth of stocks were traded.
