Stocks inch up for second day

The stock market rose slightly on Thursday as it did the previous working day.

Though all the indices of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) rose on the day, the turnover and share prices of most of the companies declined.

DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, gained only 9 points or 0.15 percent to settle the day at 6,327.

Among other indices, the shariah-based DSES was up by 1.45 point or 0.10 percent, and the blue-chip DS-30 increased by 4.64 points or 0.20 percent.

The DSE saw the turnover of Tk 683.74 crore, which is Tk 10.63 crore less than the previous session.

Shares of the 381 companies traded on the day, of which 145 firms gained, 162 lost and 74 remained unchanged.

The miscellaneous sector rose to the top position in terms of transactions. The total turnover in this sector was Tk 80.8 crore, which was 13.84 percent of the total turnover.

The textile sector was at the second position with Tk 64.5 crore turnover, followed by fuel and power sector at Tk 58.8 crore.

Shares of Beximco Limited were the most-traded by value on the DSE as its shares worth Tk 39.39 crore were traded on the day.

Shinepukur Ceramics, which was the second most-traded stock, had a turnover of Tk 33.13 crore followed by Fortune Shoes, Titas Gas, IPDC Finance, JHRML, Power Grid, Fu-wang Food, RAK Ceramics and Sonargaon Textile.

Meanwhile, the overall index CASPI of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) increased over 16 points to 18,618 and securities worth Tk 23.24 crore were traded on the day.
