DSE ends slightly higher despite sluggish start

Despite a weak start and a sluggish spell on Wednesday morning, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) index edged up gradually on selective buying and ended the session marginally higher.

Although the index increased slightly at the end of the day, along with the share prices of most companies.

However, the amount of turnover decreased compared to the previous working day

DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, gained only 6 points or 0.09 percent to settle the day at 6,317.

Among other indices, the shariah-based DSES was up by 2.56 point or 0.18 percent, and the blue-chip DS-30 declined by 1.46 points or 0.06 percent.

The DSE saw a turnover of Tk 694.37 crore, which is Tk 31.51 crore less than the previous session.

Shares of the 382 companies traded on the day, of which 193 firms gained, 123 lost and 66 remained unchanged.

The textile sector rose to the top position in terms of transactions. The total turnover in this sector was Tk 93.9 crore, which was 16.71 percent of the total turnover.

The miscellaneous sector was at the second position with Tk 84.8 crore turnover, followed by pharmaceuticals and chemicals sector at Tk 52.68 crore.

Shares of Beximco Limited were the most-traded by value on the DSE as its shares worth Tk 44.68 crore were traded on the day.

Shinepukur Ceramics, which was the second most-traded stock, had a turnover of Tk 25.95 crore followed by JHRML, Alif Industries, Sonali Paper, Square Pharma, IPDC Finance, Brac Bank, Fu-wang Food and BSC.

Meanwhile, the overall index CASPI of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) increased over 11 points to 18,602 and securities worth Tk 38.27 crore were traded on the day.
