DSEX crosses 7,100 mark

DSE indices on Thursday

The Dhaka Stock Exchange ended trading on Thursday with a rise in its key index crossing a 7,100-point mark.

The benchmark index of the bourse, DSEX, increased by over 16 points or 0.22 percent to settle the day at 7,105.

Among other DSE indices, the blue-chip DSE-30 increased by 18 points or 0.69 percent, but the shariah-based DSES went down by 0.75 points.

Although the capital market continued to fall in the last quarter of last year, the beginning of this year has been upbeat.

Out of 15 working days of three weeks, the index decreased in only two days.

Although the index is not seeing a rapid rise, it is gradually increasing. Turnover is also increasing in a similar manner.

Like the previous session, Beximco Limited dominated the stock market again as it gained nearly 6 percent and contributed more than 12 points to the index.

Apart from this, the index increased by 3.36 points by Beximco Pharma and 2.33 points by Linde BD.

In addition, Square Pharma, Keya Cosmetics, ACI, Trust Bank, Uttara Bank, Beacon Pharma and Sonali Paper added about 7 points to the index.

Trading on the DSE started on the day with an increase in share and unit prices of most of the companies. As a result, DSEX increased by 31 points from the start of trading.

This upward trend seen at the beginning of the transaction continued until the end of the transaction.

However, in the last two hours, the shares and units of several companies fell. This prevented a big rise in the price index.

Even though the DSE-30 index, which is made up of well-selected companies, was on the rise, the shariah-based index turned negative.

Turnover, another key indicator of the market, was Tk 1601.20 crore, which was Tk 134.37 crore less than the previous session.

Of the shares of 378 companies traded on the day, 174 firms saw a fall in prices, 162 firms witnessed an increase, and 42 remained unchanged.

The Miscellaneous sector had the top position in terms of turnover. The total turnover of this sector was Tk 339.3 crore, which is 21.95 percent of the total turnover.

The Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals sector was at the second-highest position of turnover with Tk 190.8 crore and Engineering sector at third position with Tk 162 crore.

Meanwhile, the overall index CASPI of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) increased by over 65 points to 20,917 points and securities worth Tk 44.09 crore were traded on the day.
