DSEX exceeds 7,000 mark again

The key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange crossed 7,000-point mark again amid a crucial meeting of the finance ministry with the central bank and the stock market regulator held on Tuesday.

The turnover in the stocks had remained low for the last several days as investors seemed to be confused over a decision regarding easing of regulations of banks’ investment on the stock market.

The index rose for the fifth straight day on the DSE on Tuesday. The DSEX crossed the 7,000-point mark after 10 working days. Earlier on November 23, the index was at 7013 points.

The trading began with a positive note on Tuesday morning and the trend continued till the end and all the indicators rose.

At the same time, the share and unit prices of most of the companies participating in the transaction and the turnover also increased.

The DSEX increased by over 70 points, or 1 percent, to close the day at 7,049.

The shariah-based index DSES was up by over 15 points or 1 percent and the blue-chip DSE-30 index increased by nearly 26 points or 1 percent.

The turnover on the DSE increased by Tk 444 crore to Tk 1,331 crore on the day.

Beximco contributed the most to the growth of the index. The company’s share price rose by 2.1 percent. As a result, the company added 5.56 points to the index.

Besides, LafargeHolcim added 4.63 points while United Power 4.41 points, ICB 3.79 points and Beximco Pharma contributed 3.64 points to the index.

The banking sector again surpassed others in turnover. The total turnover in this sector was Tk 249 crore, which is 19.66 percent of the total transactions.

Of the shares of 375 companies traded on the day on DSE, 274 companies or 73.07 percent witnessed an increase, 69 companies or 18.40 percent saw a fall in prices and 32 companies or 8.53 percent remained unchanged.

Shares of Beximco Limited were the most-traded company on the DSE on Tuesday followed by ONE Bank, GSP Finance, Power Grid, First Security Islami Bank, Paramount Textile, Delta Life, Active Fine, IFIC Bank and GPH Ispat.

Meanwhile, CASPI, the overall index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), increased by 204 points to 20,607 points and securities worth Tk 44.68 crore were traded on the day.
