Stocks end week on mixed note

The country’s capital market saw mixed activities last week with the index rising on three days and falling on the rest in the five working days.

During the week, the market capitalisation of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) increased by nearly Tk 7,000 crore.

At the same time, the share and unit prices of most of the companies participating in the transaction increased.

However, the total turnover decreased during the period. The DSE had a turnover of about Tk 5,040 crore during this period, which is Tk 1,266 crore or 20 percent less than the previous week.

Meanwhile, despite losing Tk 14,981 crore the previous week, Tk 6,743 crore in market capitalisation returned in the market last week

The market capitalisation on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) was Tk 5,46,097.35 crore before the start of trading on the first working day of last week.

From there, the market capitalisation stood at Tk 5,52,840 crore at the end of last week’s trading, up by Tk 6,743 crore or 1.23 percent.

The DSE’s benchmark index, the DSEX, rose by 84.11 points, or 1.23 percent, to 6,936.20 during the week.

Among other DSE indices, the Shariah-based DSES Index increased by 16.53 points or 1.15 percent and the blue-chip DS-30 Index rose by 33.07 points or 1.27 percent.

A total of 380 companies participated in the share and unit transactions on the DSE last week.

Among the companies, the share price increased by 176 or 46.32 percent, decreased by 168 or 44.21 percent and remained unchanged at 36 or 9.47 percent.

Last week, the average turnover on the DSE was nearly Tk 1,008 crore per working day, which was over 253 crore or 20.08 percent less than the previous week.

Beximco’s shares were the most traded on the DSE last week. The company’s share turnover was over Tk 552 crore, which was 10.96 percent of the total turnover.

Shares of One Bank came in second place with a turnover of Tk 428 crore and First Security Islami Bank in the third position with a turnover of Tk 200 crore.

Also, on the list of top ten companies were IFIC Bank, Delta Life Insurance, Paramount Textile, Beximco Pharma, Genex Infosys, Brac Bank and Orion Pharma.

Meanwhile, on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the overall index CASPI rose by 196.75 points, or 0.98 percent, to 20,254.87 during the week.

About Tk 242.66 crore worth of stocks were traded on the CSE during the week, down by about Tk 20 crore or 7 percent compared to the previous week.
