Dhaka University (DU) is going to reopen its residential halls from October 5 after a long recess due to the outbreak of coronavirus, across the country.

The DU syndicate, the highest policy making body, on Saturday took the decision in a meeting held with its Vice Chancellor Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

The masters’ and honours’ students will be allowed to board their rooms following taking first dose of Coronavirus vaccine. They have to produce valid papers in support of their studentship.

The university syndicate, provost standing committee and academic council of the varsity vested their approval to the decision during the meeting.

The masters’ and honours’ students will be permitted to enter their respective rooms from 8am on that day. The libraries and seminars will be kept open from 10am to 5pm.

Earlier on Thursday, the university’s academic council proposed that authorities organise vaccination for the students at the medical centre.

The proposal was granted in the syndicate meeting, said a meeting source.

The syndicate meeting has also been given approval to strongly enforce the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in maintaining health guidelines on the university campus after reopening.

As per the SOP, from now on, no student can sleep on the floor and the surrounding area of a room will have to be kept clean.

All will have to wear masks as they go outside the halls, maintain social distancing rules and disinfect their hands in a bid to contain the spread of the virus.

No guest or non-student will be allowed to stay in the halls, according to the syndicate decision.
