Market capitalisation at DSE shrinks by Tk 12,000cr in one week

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) lost market capitalisation worth about Tk 12,000 crore in a span of one week.

According to the DSE, the market capitalisation in the country’s main stock exchange decreased by Tk 11,843.51 crore to stand at Tk 5,74,475.34 crore.

In last week, over Tk 11,122 crore were traded on the DSE. The previous week’s transaction was over Tk 13,888 crore, meaning the market saw a decrease of transactions by over Tk 2,765 crore or 20 percent.

The bourse’s benchmark index, DSEX, fell by 30.43 points or 0.42 percent to close at 7,228.31. Among other indices, the shariah index fell by 15.21 points or 0.96 percent to 1577.10 points and the DSE-30 index rose by 27.41 points or 1.04 percent to 2674.55 points.

During the period, shares of 378 companies were traded on the DSE. Among them, prices of 84 companies increased, that of 282 companies decreased while the value of 12 remained unchanged.

Shares and units worth Tk 11,122.39 crore were traded during the period. Of them, 10 companies accounted for 23.26 percent of the total transactions.

Beximco shares were the most traded among the top 10 companies. Some 4.81 crore shares of the company were traded amounting to Tk 589.85 crore, which is 5.30% of last week’s total transactions.

Among the other most traded companies were LankaBangla Finance (3.37 percent), Beximco Pharmaceuticals (3.02 percent), Saif Powertech (1.83 percent), BATBC (1.80 percent), Lafarge Holcim (1.70 percent), Square Pharmaceuticals (1.68 percent), National Housing Finance and Investment (1.65 percent), IPDC Finance (1.45 percent) and Delta Life Insurance (1.44 percent).
