Price fall in large-cap drives stocks further down

The country's bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – on Monday plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 69.81 points or 1.17 percent to 5,898.24, reports BSS.

Two other indices also ended sharply lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunging 8.96 points to finish at 2,042.62 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 13.55 points to close at 1,286.25.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Tk 4,866.73 million, which was Tk 5,146.37 million in the previous session of the week.

Out of 396 issues traded, 330 declined, 34 advanced and 32 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

GOLDENSON topped the turnover chart, followed by FUWANGCER, GHAIL, LOVELLO and Central PHL.

ASIATICLAB was the day's top gainer, posting 9.79 percent gain while Goldenson was the worst loser, losing 9.05 percent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 161.25 points to settle at 16,929.12 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 96.49 points to close at 10,165.41.

Of the issues traded, 157 declined, 46 advanced and 24 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city's bourse traded 50.17 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value worth about Tk 12.97 crore.
