Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) on Wednesday plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 49.61 points or 0.79 percent to 6,226.65, reports BSS.

Two other indices also ended sharply lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 19.07 points to finish at 2,139.13 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 11.25 points to close at 1,372.91.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Tk 11,732.18 million, which was Tk 11,769.49 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 396 issues traded, 306 declined, 61 advanced and 29 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

SONALIPAPR topped the turnover chart, followed by FUWANGFOOD, ORONINFU, BDTHAI and IFIC.

SICL was the day's top gainer, posting 10 percent gain while HRTEX was the worst loser, losing 9.96 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 347.27 points to settle at 17,811.32 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 208.96 points to close at 10,663.99.

Of the issues traded, 204 declined, 51 advanced and 23 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city's bourse traded 64.77 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Tk 13.36 crore.
