Bangladeshi youth have a tremendous opportunity to build a career in the field of cyber security at a time when many other people around the world have lost their jobs because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Students of any discipline can build a career as a cyber security engineer after taking one year of training,” said Syed Kamran Ahmed, chief information officer of the security risk management department of Islami Bank Bangladesh.

He made the remarks in a webinar titled ‘Careers in Cyber Security’ on Saturday which was organised by the national committee on cyber security awareness month 2021. The month-long campaign has been sponsored by Robi Axiata ltd. and technology service provider Cyber Paradise, respectively.

The international organisation Cyber Security Ventures has found that job opportunities for 3.5 million people are there in the field of cyber security, this year alone. This means that cyber security professionals belong to the top demanding job market across the world.

“If the need for recruiting manpower in the cyber security sector can properly be understood by the authorities of the organisations, if they can identify the risk issues, they will also give importance to this specific area and create employment opportunities in Bangladesh,” said Ahsanuzzaman Sujan, group head of human resources of Bangladesh Finance, at the webinar.

The speakers said although jobs were retrenched across the world amid Covid-19 pandemic, employment generation in the field of cyber security grew.
