The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the income tax return submission time frame by a month following applications of different trade bodies.

The deadline has been extended until December 31 and the taxpayers will not have to pay any fines for the tax return submission during this period, NBR Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem came up with the announcement during a programme in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The NBR chairman said around 22 lakh returns submitted their income tax return till Tuesday (November 29).

Many new taxpayers are willing to submit their income returns this year and a good number of taxpayers sought an extension of the time, he said.

He said the income tax return submission process is being simplified so that people can pay taxes in a hassle-free system.

Those who have taxable income must submit returns, otherwise, the relevant law will be enforced to pay income tax, he said.

Earlier on October 26, the NBR declared November as the 'Tax Service Month' in a bid to facilitate the taxpayers to submit their returns as well as availing various tax-related services.

Like the Income Tax Fair, the taxpayers would be able to enjoy various tax-related services throughout the month at different tax zones from November 1 to November 30.

The NBR also carried out various activities throughout the month to ensure the flourishing of tax culture, increasing tax awareness and gaining the trust and confidence of the taxpayers.
