Breaking a continuous fall in prices the previous week, the stock market of the country saw an upward trend in all three sessions last week, guiding the market capitalisation to gain around Tk 5,000 crore.

Shares and unit prices increased for most of the companies that participated in trading during the week.

Last week, there were only three trading days in the country’s stock markets instead of five due to the National Mourning Day and Janmashtami.

The market ended higher on each of those working sessions.

However, the market was in decline for all four trading days in the previous week. During this, the market capitalisation of DSE decreased by Tk 10,211 crore.

After this big fall in the stock market, the first day of last week started with an upward movement. In the next two working days, the stock market continued to rise.

The market capitalisation of DSE stood at Tk 5,08,109 crore at the end of the last trading day of last week, which is Tk 4,843 crore more than the last working day of the previous week.

Meanwhile, the benchmark index of DSE, the DSEX was up over 92 points, or 1.51 percent, to 6,241 during the week.

Among other DSE indices, the shariah-based DSES increased by 20.67 points or 1.54 percent, and the blue-chip DS-30 rose by 25.66 points or 1.17 percent.

The DSE had a turnover of Tk 2,838 crore last week, which is Tk 745 crore or 20.80 percent less than the previous week. The decrease in total transactions is due to the fact that only three business days were traded last week.

Accordingly, in the last week, the average turnover on the DSE was Tk 946 crore per working day, which is Tk 50 crore or 5.61 percent more than the previous week.

A total of 388 companies participated in the share and unit transactions on the DSE last week. Among the companies, the share price increased by 257, declined by 42 and remained unchanged by 89.

Beximco Limited’s shares were the most traded on the DSE last week. During the week, the company’s share turnover was Tk 210.12 crore, which is 7.40 percent of the total turnover.

Shares of Malek Spinning came in second place with a turnover of Tk 86.61 crore followed by IPDC Finance, Fortune Shoes, LafargeHolcim, BSC, Soanli Paper, Intraco Refueling, Coppertec Industries and KDS Accessories.
