Procurement of more wheat, urea gets cabinet nod

The government has decided to purchase 50,000 tonnes of wheat and 30,000 tonnes of urea fertiliser to meet home demand for food grain and farm input for 2022-23 financial year.

The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement approved two separate procurement proposals to this end on Wednesday.

The approval came at the procurement committee meeting chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal. A total of 10 proposals were approved by the cabinet committee.

At the end of the meeting of the purchase committee, the additional secretary to the cabinet department Sabirul Islam briefed the media on the procurement matters.

He said Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries will purchase 30,000 metric tonnes (10%+) of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Saudi Arabia through SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company this FY at an expense of Tk 167.59 crore.

Islam said the proposal to buy 50,000 metric tonnes (+5%) of wheat from Singapore through M/s Agrocrop International Pvt Ltd has been approved by the Directorate of Food under the Ministry of Food at Tk 209.55 crore.
