Project to widen Cox’s Bazar marine-drive approved

The government has approved a Tk 1,092 crore project to widen Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive to ensure a secured communication system, expansion of tourism and development of the socio-economic condition in the area.

The approval came at the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting held at the National Economic Council (NEC) Conference Room in Dhaka on Tuesday.

ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting joined it virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban.

The meeting also approved 10 projects including the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive widen one involving Tk 2,216 crore and of which Tk 1,875 crore will come from the government fund and Tk 941 crore from foreign credit.

While addressing a press conference after the ECNEC, Planning Minister MA Mannan told the reporters that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the concerned authorities to construct an adequate number of bridges and culverts in Sylhet and Sunamganj area to ensure smooth flow of water.

Many roads have been cut to remove floodwater in Sylhet and Sunamganj and the prime minister has ordered to undertake projects to build bridges and culverts at the damaged point for keeping the water flow normal, he said.
