A cabinet committee meeting on public purchases on Thursday approved a proposal for importing 33.60 lakh MMBtu of liquefied natural gas at Tk 886.76 crore.

The price per MMBtu LNG will be $25.75, said Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Zillur Rahman Chowdhury, in a virtual briefing.

He also said the price of per MMBtu LNG was at least a dollar lower than the last purchase.

The meeting presided over by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal also approved a proposal of the Ministry of Industry for procuring 30,000 tonnes of granular urea fertiliser from Karnaphuli Chemical Fertiliser Limited at Tk 174.62 crore with per ton costing $671.

Zillur Rahman said the price of urea is down to $671 from $805 a tonne.

He said everybody will be free from panicking seeing this lower prices of LNG and urea fertiliser amid the war in Europe that created a supply crunch of various commodities.
