Kamal urges USA to make more investment in Bangladesh

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Sunday urged the entrepreneurs and investors of USA to make more investments in Bangladesh availing the business and investment-friendly environment of the country.

Kamal made the call when the newly-appointed ambassador of USA in Dhaka Peter Haas met him at his secretariat office in the capital, said a finance ministry press release.

During the meeting, the finance minister said Bangladesh has advanced a lot economically over the last 51 years of the country’s independence while the country, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has reached a new height on the global economic front.

He mentioned that Bangladesh is now the 41st largest economy in the world while it was the 60th economy in 2006.

Kamal said that the GDP size of Bangladesh crossed $100 billion after 38 years of independence while it was multiplied by four times to $411 billion over the last 12 years.

He said that alongside the diplomatic relations, the trade and commerce between the two countries has also expanded over the years.

The finance minister also extended his thanks to the USA for providing various support to Bangladesh including vaccine support in facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

In response, the US ambassador lauded highly the economic progress, capacity of Bangladesh, ongoing vaccination programme as well as the steps taken by the government in facing the health related and socio-economic challenges owing to the pandemic.

Mentioning that an attractive economic package is there in Bangladesh for making investment, Peter Haas said that he would project before the investors and entrepreneurs of the USA the investment-friendly environment, various facilities given by the government for attracting investment, benefits of the demographic dividend, friendly behaviour and the availability of capable manpower in Bangladesh.

Peter Haas also assured the finance minister that the USA would stand beside Bangladesh with necessary support in the country’s development march.
